The cave has room for a skyscraper with
40 levels and it has both a forest and a river within it. The Son Doong cave in
Vietnam is the largest in the world and a tour inside it is beyond imagination.
This underground shows how beautiful nature can be.
This massive cave is and is located near the Laos–Vietnam border situated in the Vietnamese National Park Phon Nha-Ke Bang,
280 miles south of the capital Hanoi.
Hang Son Doong means “mountain-river-cave”
it dates back to five million years. It was first found in 1991 by a local
farmer named Ho-Khanh. The whistling
sound of wind and roar of a rushing stream in the cave heard through the
entrance as well as the steep descent prevented the local people from entering
the cave. Even though it was found in 1991, the world came to know about it
when it was explored for the first time in 2009 by British experts.
It took three expeditions
for the team to find the entrance of the cave, since it is covered in dense
jungle and Khanh found the cave years ago when he was a boy, Which made it difficult
for him to relocate it.
The cave as a whole is
considered to be 87 miles long. The biggest chamber of Son Doong is more than 5
kilometers (3.1 mi) long, 200 meters (660 ft.) high and 150 meters
(490 ft.) wide. It has its own Rain forest, lakes, beach and a river.
A lot of caves have relics
from a prehistoric age, like statues or painting on the wall. But nothing like
that has been found in this cave.
The cave is also rich in
rare pearls that have been shaped for centuries by water drops that fall from
the ceiling and hit the limestone on the base. Pearls are rare and in most caves
are no larger than a marble. The cave pearls here are the size of baseballs,
larger than any the cavers have ever seen.
In august 2013 the first
group of tourists explored the cave. There are guided tours and the tour can
take seven days and the cost is around $3000. For that price you will also
spend five nights camping inside.
